New sign in message from Apple

This message popped up my iPhone just now



1) I have never signed into FaceTime on anything
2) It gives the name of an iPad and it is my iPad which I have had for a while
3) I hadn't used my iPad today and used it yesterday for the first time for ages, but not for Facetime.

I changed my Apple ID password anyway.
1) It gave me the option to sign out of every device and I did.
2) It sent me a code as I use two fact authentication.

But I still don't know why I got this message?
1) It's not a new iPad
2) I was not using Facetime

New software update in the last day or so? You can check this in settings.
 
Thanks Itchy, but I don't understand.

I didn't update the software on my iPad although it is long overdue.

Would updating the software use Facetime in the background?

The other odd thing that happened, although I can't see how it's related.

A contact sent me a text yesterday. He did not have my phone number in his phone, but did have my email address.

So 3 converted the message to an email.

I replied to it this morning from my desktop by emailing him.

I don't think that this is in any way related to the Apple message.
 
Could you have accidently activated FaceTime? I have just bought a Samsung Tablet and you can sign in via face recognition. Could this have happened without you intending to?

FaceTime and facial recognition/biometric login (particularly on an Android device) are completely unrelated issues.

Thanks.

That seems to be the most likely explanation.

But I signed into the iPad yesterday.
And got the message this morning.

The main thing is that I am happy that no one else is actually using my Apple ID.
