New Motorway From Oilgate to Rosslare Harbour

Hi, I have been informed by the Council that the new motorway will pass less than 20m from my home where I have lived, with my family, for over 30 years. I am not against the motorway per se but, with it being so close and considering the light and noise pollution and the detrimental effect it will and is having on our lives, I presumed that we would have been CPOd, which would have allowed us move to an equivalent property, away from the motorway. However, they have not confirmed that I will be CPOd but stated that they understood our plight, but have offered no alternative solutions etc..... I have been informed by an auctioneer that this motorway will seriously devalue our home which obviously will have a serious impact on our ability to purchase an equivalent property elsewhere. I have searched and searched and have not yet found any documentation detailing how close a new motorway can legally be placed beside an existing home. Any constructive advice welcome,

I believe the days of windfall for impacts like these are long gone (speaking as someone that might be impacted by another similar project.

They don't anticipate going for planning for that project until Q3 2026, in the meantime they will be refining the proposed route, and they are unlikely to confirm anything beyond that the road is likely to fall within the corridor highlighted on the map.

Thanks Leo, I'm not looking for a windfall just for fairness and to be not worse off due to the project in question. Hopefully you wont be impacted as much if the project commences close to you. Thanks again.

Hello,

I'd write to them, expressing all appropriate concerns, not just monetary, but things like noise pollution, any road safety concerns, issues that may arise getting into / out of your property etc etc.

While being both polite and professional, I'd also be clear, direct, and I would send the letter by registered post.

I'd ask that they engage directly with you, in advance of finalising any decisions on their preferred route.

I'd also specifically ask them to:

- consider alternative routes which aren't as close to your property,

- consider paying for a suitable independent professional, to advise you on the impact of their proposals,

- consider making appropriate proposals to compensate you, for the negative impact, if they do decide to build very close to your home.

I think this gets your concerns and reasonable expectations on record.

Thank you. Advice is much appreciated. By the way do you know of any suitable independent professionals that I could contact ?

I will as it will route a busy road close to my home, not as close as yours though but there is zero chance of me getting any form of payment as they will not be taking any of my land.

Probably not the constructive advice you want to hear.

That's just hearsay and nonsense.

I live very close to a main motorway artery in Dublin, its an added bonus for the likes of me, just as it will be for the next person. Not necessarily yourself albeit.

Route it somewhere else, or, compensate me. We`ve got to move beyond this narrative to make progress.

I'm sure they did.

Sorry Mr Earl,

Buts that's the very tone and language that has had our planning and infrastructure is such a dismal state of affairs for years, especially the " keep me directly engaged" before finalizing line.

How many residents should they directly engage with, just the ones who complain, or everyone in the proposed route catchment radius.
Good luck with ever seeing another Motorway constructed in the near future that being the case.

This motor way in needed.
My advice to the Council would be, Get on with it.

No, it doesn't affect me directly as it does you, but, it will be a great help to a lot of other road users, and no doubt other residents in the Oilgate and surrounding areas along the proposed route.

You can obviously object when the project goes to planning.
Regarding distance, have a look at the M28 project. Locals objected and went to high courts but lost.
In one case the road will be c 20m away

You have 2 things to consider here, the noise, disruption etc during building and then the impact post building. You can object but it needs to be grounded in fact and I would target noise, pollution and impact on health as grounds as well as any impact on house value. Incidentally, it will be TII and not the Council building this.

Of course, if the Greens stay in power it may not be built anyway

this might be on some use
