New Laptop

Need to treat myself to a new Laptop soon. As I am a housewife and really only use it for information i.e travel info, online shops etc and booking flights etc I am wondering would a notebook suffice or would I be better getting the standard size laptop, also, if I wait until sales in January would I save much ?

If you're using it primarily for the browser, then a netbook for around €300 should be sufficient. I don't think you'd save that much by waiting 'til January. Computer stocks don't need to be cleared out in January in the way other consumer items do.

a netbook also has a smaller screen & keyboard which might be a disadvantage.

IMO which laptop is decided by how much you'll move it around, which dictates everything else.

Personally I love a big screen so I like laptops with 17" screens. I also don't move it outside of the house very often. But I don't want the clutter of a regular PC. With a laptop you can put it away quite easily.
