New business partner

I know someone starting a new business. They are looking for a partner in the business that will pay half of all the costs and provide their own transport not an employee. The business involves manual work and a fair bit of driving and unsocial hours, the partner would also need experience in the business. They reckon that they would want to keep 33% of what their partner earns as they started the business. I think that this is a total rip-off and that they will find it impossible to find a partner. Would they be better off if they got an employee instead of a partner?

That is capitalism and the free market.

Your friend has a few choices

1) Accept this offer
2) Negotiate a better offer
3) Set up on his own

The hardest part of setting up a new business is to get clients. If the "employer" has the clients, I would have thought that getting 33% of the fee was not too far out.
