Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP, any experiences?

Hi,
I am considering doing a Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioners course, but i would like to hear from anyone who has already done this course or similar, and their thoughts on it, in terms of usefulness, quality of course, where you did it etc and any other revelant info or thoughts on the subject..... it is quite expensive and don't want to throw my money away.....

Hi MJ77,

I'm assuming you know nothing at all about NLP and are considering a course which would teach you NLP techniques, is this right?

There are some who consider NLP to be a PseudoScience and others who consider it a dangerous therapy.

Why not do a google search for NLP and skeptic and see what you get.

Hi ajapale, yes I am considering doing this course and I have searched the web for info.... I am a teacher and feel that it might be an interesting course to do and one which might improve/add to my ability to motivate and get more from the children I teach.... I also think that as long as the courses are well run and of good quality, it's something that even if i never applied it professionally, it would be interesting for me to do....

Problem is i've attended many courses in the past that pretend to be something they aren't, and I don't want to repeat those experiences..... poor quality, badly organised, inconsistent content, poor disinterested lecturers...very interested in collecting the cash....not so interested in delivering the content....etc.
....most of the info I've found so far on the web is self praise by the people offering these courses....they talk about how good they are themselves....thats why I would love to hear from someone who actually did one of these courses......!
(...I don't think this is medically related....?)

I did a one day course in NLP as part of a team (a football team). It is interesting just to do it and some of the excercises were good.

Not sure what someone can take from NLP in terms of their day to day lives.

What are you hoping to achieve by doing the course?

Introducing Neuro-Linguistic Programming: Psychological Skills for Understanding and Influencing People (Paperback)

by Joseph O'Connor (Author), John Seymour (Author)

A lot of the content of the course came from this book, so might be worth reading the book before deciding to spend money on the course. Loads of other NLP books on amazon.com.

Yes I think that NLP has been successfully used in the area of Sports Psychology.

Im not sure the extent to which the techniques have any scientific basis.

What is the view of the teaching profession on the technique? What is the view of Educational Psychologists?

I would be slow to progress down this road without some back up from the relevant professional bodies.

The Durham Fish Oil trials have been shown to be an unscientific hoax and the Nintendo BrainTrain while fun do not have any scientific validation.

Try Empower training in Kilkenny. I'm doing a Life Coaching Course with them and it is quality. Much more than I expected. If they don't have a cours eto suit you they might be able to point you in th eright direction.
