I am looking for someone that can perform a test on my phone line. I have 3mb Broadband with UTV and I am having an ongoing fault since January. My speeds aren't much better than dial up. UTV are blaming the house wiring and Eircom wont come out. It falls to me to get it tested at my own expense.
Does anyone know anyone that can test my line?
I have tried everything at this stage:
Plugged in directly to the telephone point.
Checked wiring at back of connection
Connected to my pc via ethenet
Swopped modems
Swopped phone cable
I have been running speed tests since January and at about 4am I can reach up to 2.5 MB at times. Normally its about 712kbps. Not good for a 3MB line. My phone works perfectly and my Sky has no problems either.
Where else can the problem be. UTV are so unhelpful.
Does anyone know what the line can be tested for? UTV say the line as far as the house is 100%.
The download speed advertised by service providers actually bear no resemblance to what you actually get when connected yourself. When UTV say its a 3Mb/s line, they can probably achieve that in lab conditions, going downhill with the sails up. If you can reach 2.5 Mb/s then there is most likely nothing wrong with the internal wiring on the house and any subsequent reduction in speed when more users start coming on line at the network backbone side is to be expected.
