I am due to hit 70 yrs of age next birthday. I applied online for a renewal of my driving licence. I am required to get a medical form completed by my doctor. They only have a download option to get this form. My printer has given up the ghost so I can't download. I tried ringing them, to have one posted to me and was holding on the phone for 20 minutes. As soon as I was about to be put through to a customer service rep......the phone was cut off.

They have an office somewhere in Leopardstown. I am sure they have forms there that I can collect and take to my doctor. However....is there anywhere else that I can get hold of one of these forms?
 
I tried to phone them also. I was put through multiple menu's of choices before I was put on a waiting list to speak with a customer service representative. Just as it was my turn, my phone line was disconnected at their end.

I also think that you are charged a call fee when contacting them. A person should not be put on hold and have to listen to multiple menus of options and be charged for the privilege.
 
Finally got through to the NDLS on the phone. Another 20 minute wait. They refused to post out a Medical form for completion by my doctor, that they require, as it is too costly to do so. Can you believe it!

They said that, maybe your doctor, might have one?

There is no "walk in" at their centres at the moment either, you have to make an appointment.
 
Most libraries have a printing facility. You can send them a document by email for printing, or login to the computer in the library and print from there.
Here's the details for DCC - check if you local library has something similar.

"Thanks for your query. I'm sorry to hear about your most recent experience calling customer service. The NDLS don't post out medical reports, these can be printed from NDLS.ie or I'd advise contacting your Doctor's office to see if they supply them. I hope this helps."
 
Is this a joke?

The NDLS require a form completed when you reach 70 years of age.....but they won't supply you with a hard copy of the form but send you to a third party?

NDLS customer care opening hours are 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday excluding Public Holidays and Saturday 9am - 1pm.
 
NDLs is outsourced to a 3rd party provider called Abtran, Unless it is in their contract with the relevant Govt Department to do this, they won't, as it would cost them money to do so and they would not be able to recover the cost

your local Citizens advice will print this for you as well
 
Did you miss the part where the Doctor will have to fill in the form anyway so a visit to the Doctor is required whether the OP had a printed copy or not?
 
Your Doctor , or an optometrist , has to complete this form once the vision test has been completed. You could check when making an appointment that there are facilities available to print out this form at the office. It is not necessary for the applicant to have the form in advance of the eye test.

Even in a pandemic it is important to ensure drivers have an acceptable level of vision acuity. Certainly with Doctors so busy during the pandemic , it should be easier to get a visual acuity check at your local optometrist. If a full medical report is advised for any reason a visit to your Doctor will be necessary.
