Im just wondering when is this 3.5% increase going to come in? Im in the private sector and the manager is telling us that once the government ratifies this,we will get it straight away.Is this true and if so when do you think the government will get around to it. Im aware that there is talk of the government going back on this deal but someone else told me that this will only be for the public sector. oh so confused...

cheers for that but my employer has told us that we will be definately getting the increases but as i said earlier they are just waiting for the go ahead. are they right in what they say, do they have to wait for anything or can they go ahead and give us the increase 2moro if they so wish. I have no doubt that my employer will honour this agreement but its just a matter of when the government will "ratify" it , as my employers have put it.

I am extremely puzzled why your employer would give you a 3.5% pay rise which is meant for public service workers only.

He is either very generous or very confused!

Kiwifruit, does you employer have an agreement with the unions about pay increases?
If they do then changes agreed between the unions and government may impact on you.

Whatever gives you that idea?

"Pay
1.7 It is agreed by the parties that the following basic pay terms shall apply in the Private Sector:
§ A pay pause of 3 months from the expiry of the last phase of the first module under Towards 2016;
§ An increase of 3.5% for the next 6 months of the Transitional Agreement as it applies in each particular employment or industry; and
§ An increase of 2.5% for the next 12 months of the Transitional Agreement - except for those employees on an hourly basic rate of €11 per hour or less on commencement of the second phase where a 3% increase will apply. "

... taken from the document on this page

@kiwifruit: I'm not totally sure when the last phase expired for private sector workers, but I would guess the implementation date is probably 1 January 2009 if the agreement is ratified by all parties.

Private sector employees get T16 as well, If employer is member of IBEC , why should,nt they ??

We don't pay national wage agreement rises. I don't know any SME that does.
The whole agreement applies almost exclusively to public sector and union la la land.

Purple, since you dont pay nwa, do you have yearly increases for your staff or how do you keep them along with inflation? Also do they get a Christmas bonus ?

Nope, no yearly pay increases; they get a rise if they ask for one and/or deserve one. We pay for the Christmas party but no Christmas bonuses.
