Mystery Shopping

Any one know how to apply for work in this area?

I applied before - found it on nixers.ie (dont even know if that exists anymore!!).

However I was of no use to them, the criteria requires people in various areas at various times, clearly my evening and weekends free only in south dublin was already claimed by someone else.

A friend in walkinstown did it for a bit (was free daytimes) but said the financial recompense is not worth the effort.

Okay, thanks. I work close to the City Centre so thought being free at lunchtime might make it possible.

I signed up for one that deals with Brown Thomas & BT2 shops but I never did one because you have to spend over €40 in a specific department (they reimburse €20 or €25). I decided that I'd probably end up spending money on things I didn't need so it didn't work out good value for me.

Certain businesses ask agencies to send 'mystery shoppers' into their outlets and to then report back on the type of customer service they received.

I did it for a while usually in a certain restaurant chain...but they cut back on the payment which meant it cost you. In the restaurant you had to bring at least one other person and you were given specific things to order for yourself, they covered the cost of those but you had to pay for the second person's food yourself.

Like the other poster, it's just not worth it!

Did it a few times a couple of years ago. The first time was a novelty but the second and third were just annoyances TBH. Never did it again. Conditions etc might depend on the particular crowd doing it though as there are quite a few companies at this kind of thing.

Try a company called Crest Ireland. They pay about €35 per visit. You rarely have to buy anything and you put in a claim for all your visits at the end of the month. It is not as easy as it sounds and can be quite head-wrecking - you have to submit very detailed reports and you have to try to note loads of little details in the store and remember them until you write them down roughly at the end of the visit until you do the report. if you are good and have good attention to detail and good english(spelling, grammar etc) they will give you more work. You are obliged to register the earnings for tax as income for self-employment!!
