I started a parttime job recently and have just noticed that my payslips say I am earning much more than i am and therefore there is a deduction for tax that i am not paying. The actual amount of money I get is correct for the hours I'm doing so why would my boss have me on the books for more ?
Both the figure for Gross pay and that for net which appear on my payslip are wrong. i work approx 10 to 15 hrs a week on min pay but my gross pay every week says €173 with a net of about€138.40. I don,t receive this amount I receive the correct amount for the hours I've worked .
Are you receiving less than the minimum rate of pay into your hand? It is currently €8.65 per hour if you're over 18. If this is your first job during the first year you get 80% and in the second year 90% of the minimum.
Are you receiving any other benefit (food) that counts as pay under the legislation? If there is, your pay slip should make a reference to it.
Worst case it sounds like your employer might be paying you less than the minimum wage while declaring compliance to the revenue.
