moving job in public service - what point on new salary scale?

I'm thinking about taking up an offer of a new public service job, within the same organisation. As things stand I'm at the top of my current salary scale.
If I move to this new post, my current basic salary is approx. half way along the salary scale of the new post.
So at what point on the scale of the new job would I be placed?

My current post has 6 points on the scale and no Long Service Increment.
The new post has 8 points and 1 Long Service Increment.

As far as I know, they go to the nearest salary on the new scale plus one point.


Current Job 100,200,300,400,500,600,(top of scale)



New Job 450,550,650(nearest point),750,850,960,1000,1050,LSI 1200

So if you are on 600 in current job then you would go to 650 plus next point to bring you up to 750.

Does this work even if the first point on scale is well above current salary (jumping a few grades)

eg. current job 10, 20, 30, 40, 50(top) at 20 when get promoted
new job 40, 50, 60, 70, 80

would you go in at 40 which is well above what you are on or 50 which is closet to what you are on plus one?

Normally in a case like this you would go in the 2nd or 3rd point on the scale. It is very much to the discretion of the new managers and HR's recommendations.

There is a formual which HR will apply.
