moving from Eircom to Blueface

Im thinking of suscribing to a wireless broadband provider and then dumping the Eircom landline.

Has anyone heard of Blueface? What are their charges and service like?

Works great for me at home. I ported my number to them last year.

I would'nt say the service or quality is out of this world.

I have three lines in three locations with them.
I have had quite a few problems with Blueface in recent weeks.
Calls to the customer service line are going direct to an answering machine, invariably. Response to emails were once a day. They used to be within hours.

I have to say they were inflexible with some of the problems, which were of their own making.
The call quality is very erratic and if I were you, I would test it for a couple of months before ditching Eircom.

It's a pity really because they started with great service but now it seems to me like they are playing on a name they made for themselves a few years ago.

I agree with that. I signed up for their 6 month package which included the ATA, luckily I decided to use the 6 months as a test period and so I kept the landline at the same time. The 6 months is up and to be honest I can't see myself getting rid of the landline - the service is just too unreliable. NTL provide my broadband.

I have blueface for almost 12 months now. Did the trial first, and then ported my eircom number over. As I hav e wireless BB, the bonus is that I get rid of Eircom totally. Overall, I am delighted with the service, and this is bearing in mind that I am using only a 512k bb connection.

Things to bear in mind that the connection quality of your BB is very important, on top of the reliability of your voip provider, but Blueface seem to be the top players in this regard. I have had some issues, but minor ones, and found that blueface are very quick in general to respond and put a fix in place.

Overall I would recommend it, but you need to be aware that your new phone service is now dependant on two services, your BB provider and your voip provider, not like eircom being the single provider. The effect here is that an occasional outage on your bb will mean your phone line is down, and occasional probs with blueface will also affect you. I personally dont find this to be a problem, and my wife who is totally non technical also has no problem with using the service and its reliability, again bearing in mind that I am using one of the less reliable types of bb, which is wireless 512k.

My two cents worth, go for it, but do a trial with the hardware option, and not the software version of phonefirst before taking the final step of porting (software phone voice quality is not great).

I have them with NTL.. Hit a large amount of problems with call quality at the start... emailed them and next day got a reply telling me they had set me up with a new number and service has been perfect since... Highly recommended once I got over issues at the start. We don't have any landline in the house.

I know the original question is a year and a half old but thanks for the replies.

Does your BB have to be symetrical for blueface. My service is 1MB down and 250 up?
