This is for info: The motor tax office online tool in motortax.ie is not working. I have contacted them in Shannon and they have confirmed that the page is not doing what it is supposed to be doing and to try again tomorrow.
I don't know how long this has been the case, I tried to get my tax done yesterday so it is at least the second day.

The error you get is only when trying to tax your car saying that the combination of your PIN and Car reg is incorrect, then when you try to request your PIN to be sent to your email, the system tells you that they have sent it on to you, but it is not the case either.

All this to say, you would think their IT support agents would put a pop up on line advising customers that the whole page is not working correctly...

Oh and my tax (and insurance!) out on the 31st July. My insurance is done as detailed in other thread. I hope I don't have to go back to queueing in coco offices for motor tax; that would be a major retrograde step.

Good to hear. It always remembers my reg & pin (last [EDIT] six digits of the VIN).

Your reg is on your insurance cert, the A4 sheet of paper you tear your tax disc out of, and your NCT cert, unless of course you always trade your cars in before they need NCTs. Or you could take a picture of your reg and keep it in your phone. :)

The site was developed by IBM and they were paying over 300k annual maintenance for it. After a good few years the powers that be relaised and some sort of cost cutting was done, but I am not sure what.

BTW I believe the PIN is the last 6 digits of car's VIN Number, you can find it on the Vehicle Registration Certificate etc.

Yes ref the reg and how to find your PIN number, I just wanted to mention that even asking for your PIN to be sent on to you was not working either but no error was given.
I have just paid my tax.... the site is up and running now correctly
