Mortgage interest relief & rental relief

Hi,

I am currently buying a house which needs major work. While I am getting it done up I will be renting a house for probably about a year/year and half. The question I have is would I be entitled to the Rental tax allowance while this rented house is my sole residence. If I am entitled to it them am I also entitled to Mortgage Interest Relief at the same time, or are they mutually exclusive.

I believe they are mutually exclusive. I had a friend in a similar situation and he could not claim rental relief while he had a mortgage.

I agree - you can't claim both as far as I know.
