Hi

I was previously on an SVR mortgage rate with Ulster Bank. I took them to the Ombudsman and was given back my tracker backdated to 2008.

This was in November 2012. I immediately contacted the Collector-General section of Revenue as I suspected that I would have been overpaid TRS as a result. I sent an e-mail outlining the situation and followed it up with several phone calls. They said in March they were awaiting the information of the rates from Ulster Bank but were getting no where with them and would make a decision as to pursue it further within two weeks.

Roll on May and nothing from Revenue. I must add they never attempted to contact me at any point about this. I rang and they confirmed I was overpaid in 2012 and underpaid in 2011. They said that I owed €275 as a result. I was concerned this wasn't right and didnt want to get hit for a bill later for thousands down the road.......because I won't have it. And asked what about 2008 - 2010 explaining again that I was on higher rate that was subsequently reduced. They said that 2008 - 2010 was right and the amount was €275. I said ok well how do I pay this and can the put it in writing confirming this.

Got a letter in the post this morning confirm I ok €275 but only for 2011. Nothing confirming 2008 - 2010. I presume this is because they consider that I owe 0 for that period and so there is nothing to confirm. But how long have they got in case they change their mind down the road or realise they have made a mistake to then pursue me for more money??

I am no expert on this but if I had done all you have done I would keep all my correspondence with revenue and Ulster filed in a very safe place and pay the €275.00 and very well done on getting back your tracker. It will make life much easier for you.
Make a record of the time/date and details of your phone calls to revenue and keep them in your file.
