Hi
I have searched previous posts but can't seem to find a definitive answer....

Yesterday I received a letter from HSE stating that our MIS was ceasing with effect from 10 April as we had been claiming for 12 months. Enclosed was a copy of a letter which was dated in Sept last year which stated that our MIS would terminate on 10 April and stating "the payment would remain in place for a period not exceeding one year (10th April 2010) or until need is met".

Our mortgage is a standard tracker from PTSB and we were receiving €107 per week MIS.

Question is, is it possible for us to continue to receive the payment if I contact the CWO as at present our "need hasn't been met" yet as unfortunately still unemployed.

One of the criteria for claiming MIS is that the interest must be considered "reasonable" - this is a grey area but the interest paid may be compared with the rent limits in the area. If the interest is not considered reasonable, payment of MIS may be made for a max of 12 months at which point it ceases.

From what you've posted, it sounds as if this is why your MIS has been stopped.

You can appeal the decision, there are usually details of how to appeal included in the letter, if there isn't you can ask the CWO for details.
