Monitored Alarm using phone line

Hi
I am currently pricing for an alarm for house currently building, gong to get a monitored system installed, was going to use the phoneline and not a GSM dialler as this costs extra and I have read that GSM diallers will be defunct technology in a few years.

Installer was pushing for us to use GSM dialler as it could be put in the attic and so couldn't be tampered with, whereas a phoneline could be cut and the obvious extra business for him.

If a phoneline into the house is cut does this automatically trigger the house alarm?

It possibly does trigger the alarm, doubtful though, but since it's being monitored via the line there can be no contact with monitoring station!

Where did you read that? I'd be very surprised if that was the case, unless they're referring to a far off time when wireless broadband will be widely available.

There is a lot of talk in the industry about GSM and its reliability. There are jammers available which can jam a gsm signal and there have been a few cases of commercial properties being targeted.
As long as you are aware of the risks, be it very low, then go for the gsm.
If your phone is fed from a over head supply then it could be easily cut, if it's underground and you run it straight in to the house and not to a box on the side of the house then this is more secure
