Hi

I just split with my partner of 3 years. We have joint bank account that is 2500 overdrawn and joint credit of @50,000. i want to know what is the best way to resolve this?

Also, if I am concerned that she won't pay, what can I do to protect me?

Also, is it wise to declare bankruptcy, considering the level of debt?

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to AAM.

Sorry to hear of the break up of your relationship. It is obviously a stressful time for you.

Just to clarify this is an Irish website as you don't state your place of residence. Any financial advice given may apply to Ireland only.

Have you tried contacting your solicitor or bank to get financial advice? You may well need to do so to protect yourself if you feel that your ex-partner will not address the credit problem jointly.

AFAIK bankruptcy should only be considered as a last resort as it may present problems in the future. If you reside in Ireland www.mabs.ie should be able to offer advice.

If you run the search option you should get some previous threads offering info on bankruptcy.

Hope things work out for you.

Sorry, yes I live in Ireland. I'll check out your advice. thanks
