I have an office/admin job with a multinational company. Due to redundancies etc management announced that it would be 'requiring' staff to work on Saturdays (normal arrangement is Monday-Friday 9-5).
I'm aware that they are acting within the law as regards the regulation of working hours but to be honest (and yes I know that some people would love to have this complaint), its getting to the point where we are expected to work not every Saturday, but fulfill a certain number of O/T hours in the evening and then come in again on the Saturday.
The workplace is non-unionised. It's fine to do a couple of hours O/T to help them but myself and others just find now that Saturdays have turned into the norm.
I would think myself that being required to be available for a sixth day in the week is a change to our contracts and the company should re-issue them making it clear what the new expectations are. Am I correct in this?
