how do you apply for medical card.are there restrictions ? is it means tested ? based on your income?

as a rough rule of thumb what amount of joint yearly income would rule a married couple with a couple of kids from having a doctor only medical card? ie. anyone applied and been told their income is too high

Here is the full list of income guidelines for Medical Cards and GP visit cards:

Myself, husband and child have GP cards. Our income has just reduced and we reapplied for full medical card and have been refused by CWO as they won't allow childcare fees to be taken into consideration. My husband is on Jobseekers allowance but how is he going to be actively seeking work if he is caring for our child while I go to work? Is the CWO right?

The National Assessment Guidelines for Medical Cards states the following in relation to allowance for Childcare costs.

"Outgoings in respect of Childcare costs are allowable provided that the costs are necessarily incurred in taking up/continuing employment, education or training and in providing family supports."

If you are unhappy with the decision made, you have the right of appeal.

No, don't want to appeal, sounds like CWO was right even though you could'nt possibly go out looking for work while childminding full-time. OK for those that have family or friends to mind kids for job searching, interviews etc. Anyway, we have GP card so don't want to rock the boat.
Now hopefully my hubby is hoping to get on a CE scheme in the next month, would this qualify to take childcare costs into consideration?
