Hope iv this in the right place

Dh is working & we Qualified 2 years ago for a full medical card.
It was expiring at the end of this August so i sent my renewal app in june

I heard nothing back from them so i rang them there now And the man couldnt give me many details he just said it was recieved in June and is not approved yet.I said well will it be approved and he just said,you will hear from us.

Its looking iffy isnt it? Hasthe criterier got tighter?

God i hope i get it as its the Only Benifit we get.
Dh earns around €560to €580 per week,we have a child & another on way!!
 
I'm currently awaiting news on a medical card. Its my first application though. I called the day before yesterday and was told there is a 14 week waiting list unless you are terminally ill.

I'm in the Dublin area.
 
Outside of Dublin, the assessment for Medical Cards is carried out by Community Welfare Officers who also deal with the Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) Scheme.

The number of people applying for SWA and medical cards (first time and renewals) has increased dramatically and CWOs are struggling to keep up so there is a backlog. The fact that your review hasn't been decided yet doesn't mean that there might be a change - it simply means that the CWO hasn't been able to get to it yet.
 
If I remember right and your card expires, then they send you a temporary covering letter to show your doctor that you are still presently covered.

But don't know if they have time to still issue these in the current climate.
Sometimes one would feel like laying down and dieing now in this godforsaken country.

When i sent back my form i had to send it to the medical card offices in the Hse northeast region.They guy i spoke to today was also in the hse medical card office not a CWO.
just hope i get it again.

While I'm quite ill, I'm definitely not terminally ill and my medical card was fast tracked in the Dublin area 2 months ago. I simply called the office and explained my predicament to the HSE officer and they were very understanding. My GP was all ready to fax over a letter but they waived this requirement on the day.

Your GP should issue a letter to the HSE if there is an urgent medical need. This will help them make a quick decision as well.

Cr*p..il not hold my Breath so!!...just hope little one wont take a run of tonsilitus like last winter because i wouldnt have any cash for the Doc.
 
Strange. I'm in the west of Ireland and sent the forms back in the end of June and had my cards within 4 weeks.

Maybe you got it before this happened.

Angry councillors lashed out this week at the decision to centralise the processing of medical cards in Dublin and called for its immediate reversal.
Members of the HSE’s Regional Health Forum West, which met this week at Merlin Park Hospital, said removing the service from Galway was an affront to the integrity of the local community welfare officers who previously operated it.
Cllr Catherine Connolly, vice chairperson of the forum, said the staff in Galway city distinguish themselves. She said they dealt with people directly and had respect for them and their rights and entitlements.
She stated a decision was made to move the service to Dublin without giving a reason or explanation

Just updating this - I recieved my Medical cards today thank God.There only valid until april so 8 months away.They must be reveiwing them way more often now.we had last cards for 2 years before renewal.
Eighter way im just Grateful to get them
