media centre - anybody have one of these

Sounds expensive (priced in Sterling?) for what is essentially a 750GB USB drive / media reader and a remote control. Just my thoughts.

Most modern PC's come with the functionality it puports to give you (read write store CD DVD and other formats, Input / output for HiDef TV) and if you have a Mac you also get a remote that works with all the bundled multimedia software.

You might be better off saving you cash and investing it in a decent computer.

Oh just noticed, based on the given spec, that (Maxtor mechanism) particular drive won't blow your socks off speed-wise either

It sounds like it has a tv tuner as well if it can record?
Might be a problem with UHF/VHF for some irish channels, or are you using a box?
The price isn't a bargain, doesn't include VAT & postage

Yes sorry I missed the TV bit.

About GBP 193 in total then, not a bargain at all.

away from the point I think - whether its a bargain or not is down to personal viewpoint.

In terms of the spec does it seem to be missing anything that other media players would have?

In terms of investing in a decent PC - I have a laptop and to upgrade would cost significantly more.
