Med1 Overclaim

Hi,

I claimed €4,000 med 1 expenses back when I should have only claimed €3,000. I have recieved €800 tax back when I should only be entitled to €600 for last year.

Should I just send them a cheque for €200?

I made the claim two weeks ago.

You need to ring Revenue and correct the error. If you send them a cheque they won't know where to put it.

Thanks for the reply I was going to send them a cheque for 200 with a letter explaining i should have claimed 3000 not 4000 and the extra amount I received was 20% of 1000 so i owe them 200.

Hopefully as it was a mistake and was only a week ago there will be no penalties.

I suggest you give them a call first and explain the situation - my personal experience with the Revenue has been very good during the course of my few telephone dealings over the years - basically, if your' straight then so are they, imho.

I'm sure they will appreciate your honesty ...
