I put a claim in for medical expenses for 2008 on line five weeks ago, but hav'ent heard anything yet from revenue. I was wondering how long it would take to hear anything from them.

My money was in the bank in about a week. Applied 24th feb as far as i can remember. Got the money on the 4th mar. You should give them a buzz. Did you get anything in you online inbox?

I called into the tax office a few weeks ago to hand in a claim and was advised that it would be about six weeks before I would hear from them. They're overworked.

I should have filled the pdf form online and printed it out and send to my local revenue office. Form med 1. which it seems that you cannot apply online with this one. Silly me????????????

You can do the med 1 and med 2 online.
I did it yesterday.

Follow that up. I submitted mine earlier this week and the money is in my account today.
I gave them a call. They hadn't received info on my total earnings and tax paid from my employer, so they couldn't process the claim. I submitted the info online (why can't all government websites by as useful as revenue.ie and motortax.ie?), and I should have the money soon.

And I had just presumed there was the usual big delay at the start of the year.

Hi folks,
I've a question on this...I submitted medical expenses on-line for 2007 but was issued with 850 tax credits. I thought I'd receive some re-imbursment rather than tax credits.....is that how it works? I have expenses for 08 as well but is there a different way to submit them in order to get the cash....it's the cash I want not the flippin credits!

if it is correctly applied to 2007, this should not affect current tax credits, but result in a recalculation of your tax liability in 2007. If you paid tax in that year and all else being equal, this will grant you a refund of your med exps amount times either 20% or 41% (whichever is your higher rate in the year).

check your P21 following submission of the med exps to ensure that it is on it and what the new calculated under/overpayment figure is. any overpayment will be paid by either cheque or to bank (not by increased tax credits)
