MBA recommendations?

Hello. I'm currently looking into doing an MBA course and was wondering whether anyone had any info/advice to share? I would prefer to do it in cork but am flexible if there are better courses in different cities?

I did an MBA with the Open University..absolutely excellent. It fitted in well around my family and work life and I had my tutorials at UCC. Believe me, it was hard work but very rewarding. I had considered doing the MBA at UCC or UL but neither were accredited the last time I checked (I think mainly because they don't have 'business schools' , not, as far as I've heard because the courses are sub-standaard). The OU is triple-accredited; only 5% of business schools worldwide have this. The only business schools in Ireland with such accreditation are Trinity and Smurfit. The downside is that the OU course is by distance-education so options to network are limited (even though there are residential schools and tutorial sessions). Also, it doesn't appear on the FT league tables because it is part-time (but neither do UCC or UL which are full-time). See http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?Q01F02

how long did it take and what was the hourly commitment for the week?
I assume there was written work to be submitted.
How often was submissions required and how many words per submission?
thanks

It took me 2.5 years, but there are ways to drag it out or speed it up as needed. I did all the modules sequentially (modules last 6 months). I would say the weekly commitment was, on average, about 15 hours to do things well. Obviously, this increases closer to exam and assignment time. Most modules required 3 assignments to be done ~ every 1.5 months. The word limit was between 2000-3000 words (actually it is very easy to write many more words than this, trying to stay concise and succinct is the difficult part). Most of the assignments were based on one's work situation so I found them very useful for incorporating my learning back into the organisation.

Sqounk,

I am currently studying for an MBA with OUBS. Started B713 last October and I like the couse material even though it's hard work.

Just wondering what electives you took after the first 12 months? Have you any recommendations?

I did Financial Strategy (great but definately the toughest subject there), Creativity, Innovation & Change (very interesting course) and Technology Management (mind-numbing!)

Did an MBT if you are technology biased at the University of NSW in Sydney. Did a combination of distance learning (like OU) and face to face (as I was living in Sydney at the time). A number of people were doing the course completely by distance as they were living outside of Australia. Sounds similar to the OU. Would thoroughly recommend it. Check out at . PM me if you want any further information.
