I'm trying to calculate the max I can put into my pension by way of an AVC for 2008. My age bracket is for the 15% of gross pay. However I have a second job which has no pension associated to it. My question is if I make €20,000 in my pensionable employment can I only put €3,000 into my pension. Or If my total earnings with other employment were €30,000 could I then put in €4,500 into the pension scheme with the company I only earn €20,000?

Thanks in advance for replies.

Assuming that you're declaring your other employment earnings, i believe you can put 15% of the whole she-bang into the pension.

To answer your question-
"The maximum pension contributions, in any one year, for which you are entitled to tax relief, is related to your age and is expressed as a percentage of your gross income. The maximum gross income figure for relief purposes is €262,382 in 2007 and €275,237 in 2008."

NB- age means the age you attain in the particular tax year.
So if you are 29 now and your birthday is in August, for 2008 because you become 30 in 2008 tax year you fall into the 30 to 39 years, i.e. the 20% category, not the under 30, 15% category.
