Maternity Leave - Unpaid Part

Are you allowed to cancel your unpaid maternity leave (ie the 16 weeks unpaid part) with your employer - subject the giving them enough notice - due to a change in your financial circumstances (ie cannot now afford to take this leave) - anyone know ?? thanks

you only need to give them 4 weeks notice of your intention to take the leave and you need to give 4 weeks notice of your intention to return to work. Try talking to citizens information if you have already told them you are taking the leave but if you are giving them the 4 weeks notice (written) i think it is ok.

Talk to your employer. He will probably be glad to hear the news.
If you have been replaced during your absence maybe that could cause a problem
