Maternity Benefit Query

Hi there

I am due to go on maternity leave in July. I will receive state maternity benefit and then my employer gives me a top up. Now that mat ben is being taxed, am I likely to come out with less money than when I am at work, or should it be about the same?

Surely we can't be coming out with less, that would be totally penalising women for getting pregnant!

You will be definately come out with at least the same as if you were working. Previously one would receive more in there wages on maternity benefit with the employer top up, as MB was not taxable and the only tax paid was on the top up portion.

You may come out with more after July as as far as i know PRSI and USC is not payable on the MB.

I am open to be corrected.
