Married and tax credits

After being made redundant 6 years ago I gave my husband all my tax credits. I've just started working again only 7 hours a week. This month I've paid 40% tax. Would this be correct? It hardly seems worthwhile going out to work for what I'm taking home and obviously if I take credits back from him we lose out on his wages also.

You have your own PAYE tax credit of 1,650 (which you can not give to your husband). Did you give your employer a tax cert?

You need to contact revenue and ask for a Certificate of tax credits.

You are probably on emergency tax.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't give my employer any tax certs but I did ring revenue last month and they told me my tax should be sorted by this month. Will give them a ring again and try and sort it out.
