Hi,

both my wife and I selected joint assessment recently, we have received our new tax credit certificates it indicates on both our tax credit certs that the amount of income taxable @ 20% is 67611.50 and any income over this amount is taxable @41%. However my yearly tax rate band is 34,812 and my wifes is 32800. so in essence if I earn significantly more than my wife and my wife earns much less than 32,800, this contradicts the 67,611.50 @ 20% and in reality I can only receive 20% up to 34,812.

What is your question exactly?

Up to 9k of the standard rate band can be transferred between spouses, so if you want you can have up to 43,812 @ 20% and hers would then drop to 23,800 - does that help?
