I am trying to organise my fireplace at the moment - stove going slightly into opening - so putting granite hearth, and lining the inside of the fireplace with granite. I wanted to put stone cladding on the wall and then a timber mantle on top. Do I need to get the cladding done first and then the mantel or does the mantel need to be done first so that the guy doing the cladding has something to go up to? How will the mantle be attached to the wall - was hoping not to do a beam but like a cornice that you would see on the top of a kitchen?? Any ideas? do i need to get a joiner to make this or can a carpenter put something together for me??
Any suggestions will be appreciated
