I will shortly become a single mum to twins and it doesnt look like I will be able to go back to work for a while after my maternity leave as I cant get part time work and the fees for twins in creche are astronomical. The father will be paying maintenance. Am I right in assuming that if he pays for example €100 per week to me that approx €93 wont be taken into account when assessing my application for Lone Parent's Allowance as I am also trying to pay my mortgage too ie €100 maintenance - c.€93 mortgage payments = €7 divided by 2 = €3.50 is taken off my Lone Parent's Allowance?

Would I have to pay tax on the €100 maintenance or declare it to Revenue?

Would appreciate any advice?

Housing costs up to a maximum of 95.23 are deducted from the amount of maintenance paid; this is an an example;
Maintenance payment = €150.00 per week
Housing costs = €120.00
Less disregard of = €95.23
leaving balance of = €54.77
Excess of maintenance halved = €27.38
Means from maintenance = €27.38 per week

rememebr there may be other means that will reduce your OFP other thna maintenance

Thank you very much for the response, its much appreciated.

What other means would reduce OFP?

I do own a second property which is rented out but this is in serious negative equity so cant be sold and the rent doesnt cover the mortgage payments. Would this affect the Lone Parent's allowance?
