Laya Looking to upgrade policy

Hi all,

My partner has had their medical needs covered by their state job. They plan to move on from this job and obviously need to replace this benefit with a private policy.

Looking specifically at Laya policies. There are a few minor medical ongoing issues (small bit of arthritis and some joint wear & tear). So with this in mind and aware of the pending price increase look for a policy with good hospital & day to day cover. Have been looking at Control 150 Secure but wondering if there is something else laya offers for better value (cost/benefits)

[FYI: My partner took a baseline policy so as to not get loaded with the age limit on premiums.]

Thanks

S

suzie,

Control 150 Secure is a very good policy, a little bit pricey but a good choice. There are a couple of similar alternatives, better priced, worth considering with Laya. Details as follows;

1. Control 150 Create; price 1259pa; public, private and hi-tech hospital cover, 150 excess for private/hi-tech admissions, day case 1175 per visit.
Similar enough day to day cover. No price increase applies on 1 July 2016. Private room in a private hospital covered.

2. Simplicity Plan; price 1087pa; public, private, and hi-tech hospital cover, max inpatient excess 100 x 2 admissions per year. Day case 50 euro per visit to a private/hi-tech hospital. Private room in a private hospital covered. Good day to day cover - first 100 not allowed. No price increase applies on 1 July 2016, this is a very competitively priced plan, great value for money for this level of cover.

Note; if your partner is moving from a basic plan, for any pre-existing conditions there will be a 2 year upgrade waiting time for hospital cover,
or a five year wait just for pre-existing conditions if they have just joined health insurance last year.
Day to day expenses are covered straight away, no waiting applies.

Hi Snowyb

Thanks for the pointer (as usual), just dd the switch there now. Considering adding a child (mainly due to day to day cost), looking at the threads it seems VHI have deals, so will have to weight that up against the group scheme benefits of laya

Thanks

S.

Had a look around and while VHI have the discounts, considering we for see usage of day to day in the OT, optican and the normal possibility of GP, I cant see anything that beats [broken link removed]?

Thanks

suzie,

Pricewise, Precision 600 Create is the cheapest. But hospital coverwise it may not be best value. For an extra 23 euro per year, Control 600 Create,
gives much better hospital cover. I know that children, depending on the age, will mainly use public hospitals if required. But as an extra option,
the 2 hi-tech hospitals Mater Private and Blackrock Clinic also offer a range of childrens surgery, for the over three's.
The Precision plans just offer the Hermitage Clinic, in Dublin, which also do children's surgery.
The Control Secure plans offer slightly better day to day cover. You can judge yourself if you would benefit overall compared to the Create plans.

The following link has a few options to consider including both;
