Lone Parent moving in with partner

Hi folks,

First time poster here - so I hope I'm doing this right

I have a question that I am posting on behalf of a friend. Apologies if this has already been answered before (I did search the forum, but couldn't find anything).

Anyway - my friend is currently claiming one-parents allowance. Her and her new partner are thinking about moving in together. Obviously, this will mean she loses her one-parent allowance. Is she allowed to claim Jobseekers Benefit instead (or Allowance - I forget which one is means tested and which one isn't)? Her partner is in full-time employment.

Any comments appreciated. Thanks!

Your friend may be able to claim jobseekers benefit if they have sufficient RSI contributions - otherwise if they make an application for jobseekers allowance the income of the household ie. income, savings, investments etc of your friend and their partner will be assessed as part of a joint means assessment.

There is a likelihood that they wont qualify for jobseekers allowance because of household means - and if that happens depending on the income of her partner if they are a low income household they should look into claiming Family Income Supplement....
