my friend has just asked me her opinion on asking the father of her child for more maintenance. He does not see the child but this is is choice. What is the average rate of maintenance in which the other parent should pay?
 
could you give more details such as how much she is getting at the moment...is your friend working....is the ex working..?
 
the ex is working and would be on a substantial wage.
he pays 545/month. she also works but is finding things tight with having to pay mortgage, creche living etc.
 
545/month? lucky her! The average I heard people getting is 300p.m/ 75p.w.
I would find it quite unreasonable to ask for more. Paying mortgage is her business and not the child's father ones. I think the max. Court can approve is 150€ a week or has this changed yet?

Max in district court is €150 per week per child; higher amounts can be claimed in circuit court.

Maintenance is based on both parents income & expenditure. You'll find a good spreadsheet for calculating maintenance on www.solo.ie
