location of condensed gas boiler

I know a condensed gas boiler must be located on an external wall.

Question is, is there a difference in locating the boiler upstairs as opposed to downstairs.

I have had 2 quotes to install.

1. has suggested installing it on the exterior wall in the kitchen and boxing it off with a kitchen unit (standard practise I assume- have seen plenty done like this)

2. has suggested locating it in a new hotpress upstairs on the external wall. Locate it in with the water cylinder and right next door to the bathroom.

Suggestion 2 intrigues me as the installer said it would reduce any wastage as its located right next to the water cylinder and also right beside the shower.

It would also give us that little bit of extra space in the kitchen which is tiny as it is?

Are there pros and cons of locating it upstairs? What do people think?

Pros for upstairs is that you will be less affected (probably) by the pluming effect when the boiler is operating. there are no cons that I can see. your installer is referrring to the lenght of pipe run from boiler to cylinder, the less pipe work = less heat loss. Although I would not worry too much about it. Having it right next to the shower is neither here nor there.

Thanks Davy

Will it improve the heat output in the hot press if the boiler is in there? (is there much heat generated from the boiler itself)

No, The unit is truely roomsealed. It doesn't even need air from the room to cool down. the cover will always be cool.

Right. Thanks. Quite like the idea of it being tucked away upstairs.

Cheers for the advice
