There is a huge movement in the UK doing the same and it makes sense.

Outside of alcohol sales, the local pub has many benefits, and if ran properly and each member of the community owned a piece of it as a cooperative it would benefit everyone.

Obviously a nice pint would be an essential too, and I love my pint, benefits would be obviously community first , then local jobs, a meeting place for other the community, tourism, local history, the list goes on.
 
I never knew such deprived areas existed in Ireland, communities/parishes with no local parish hall, GAA, rugby, soccer or athletics club grounds and buildings, no community centre, areas so deprived that they need to buy a boozer to meet and talk. They have nowhere to bring children for training, get-togethers etc other than dragging them into a place whose primary purpose is to sell alcoholic drinks.

Pull the other one lads.

We are a drink obsessed nation.
