Living together and expecting

My partner and I recently bought our first house and are now expecting our first child together. Could someone give me advice on what we are eligible to.
I wont be able to return to work full time and may not even be able to return to work at all. Will I be able to transfer my tax credits to my partner or claim any type of benefit?
 
There are very good benefits for your situation such as joint tax assesment if you and your partner decide to get married that are not available if you remain as common law partners. (No pressure!);)
 
As far as I'm aware, unmarried couples are treated as 2 single people when it comes to tax issues. Only married couples can share tax credits. As for benefits, well, if your reason for not returning to work is staying home to care for your child, you will not be eligible for Jobseeker's Benefit, as one of the conditions for this is that you must be available for work. You may qualify for Family Income Supplement - more information here: http://www.welfare.ie/schemes/families/fis.html. There may be other options available - I would suggest paying a visit to your local DSFA office and speak with the information officer there.

Unless we get married I cant give my partner my credits and if we live together I will receive no benefits.

Seems very unfair that we will receive no help whatsoever just because we are not married. I would financially be better off if we split up.

Just doesnt seem fair when we are trying to do the right thing
