What is the cost for RTE to televise live today's party conference for Fine Gael.
As a licence payer and an apolitical person I just cannot see the sense of it, I am assuming it costs RTE more than a nominal sum.
I have watched ten minutes and it is as boring as watching paint dry, yes the party faithful are glued to every word but are the general public interested in any political parties conference being televised live, perhaps snippets but in the schedule for two hours this morning. Thankfully I am not limited to Saorview, right now Rte 2 have an hour of Home and away ( repeat ), guess what is on RTE now....yip the Fine Gael conference, not good enough to have it on one channel....put it on two...the poor guys stuck in Saorview land, RTE need a wake up call.
Looking at today's programmes on RTE I can see most are repeats, debate is ongoing about the licence fee rising yet the independents like TV3 or Independent radio stations based in the regions have to survive commercially without any part of the licence fee.
Today and in the future other live party conferences will use a portion of my Licence fee to broadcast this rubbish ( in my opinion ), would TV3 even consider this on a commercial basis, I doubt it.
