Hi joshea
We've seen some well done veneer kitchens and some really "distressed" kitchens that didn't look as well.
We think you would be well advised to go and see a few kitchens.
People have weird ideas on being in " de style" with kitchens.
Selecting the sink, tiling, lighting can affect them so much.
Have an idea of your price range.
- Fit it yourself flat-pack: €2K - €5K
- Chalon solid wood professionally fitted - €90K
We have seen well done Cash and Carry Kitchens and one of our clients supplies Chalon Kitchens.
If it is an off-the-shelf package kitchen the chances are that it will come with mdf cornicing and laminate gable ends.
If you want to specify a bespoke solid wood kitchen you will have to go to a professional kitchen supplier who offers this product.
You should request a supply and fit service whichever type of kitchen you go for and stand over them and make sure the doors line up properly, hang properly, work properly and that the cornices are properly mitred and finished.
Ask to see examples of the kitchens as installed to get an idea of how they will look fitted and after a few months in use.
Also ask if they have an after sales service to come back and re-align the doors after say three years.
Consider also the drawbacks of chipboard or other particle board type carcassing.
[hard use may see the hinges pull out of the carcass.]
Specify damped action drawers to save little fingers.
At the end of the day you get what you pay for.
