Linking ID check

Hi, I have downloaded the ID Check App and the HMRC app and really not sure how to link the two. I seem to be getting options to link UK passport, UK driving licence or a credit card. Sorry if noted already I have read and cant seem to get to the scan my Irish passport bit at all.

On my attempt to get the app to accept my Irish passport it took about 5 tries before I succeeded.
It's worth pursuing it as it's SOOO much simpler to have online access to your records.

My spouse had a UK National Insurance No from the 90's, but it was in her maiden name. London address etc
Her Irish passport was in married name and it was no go. She sent off marriage cert, proof of Irish address etc.
When the name was updated by HMRC, the Irish passport worked fine for the App.
Note that the page to scan on the Irish passport is the photo page, The UK passport NFC chip seems to be on the cover.

Thanks. Actually all worked on my second attempt.

Was there from Aug 1989 to July 1991 and my records shows a full year for 1989/1990 and for 1991/1992 but nothing for 1990/1991 which doesn’t make sense as I was employed by the same company for the 3 years. Therefore I only have two years and no extra ‘training’ years added. Which was a bit disappointing but I will still apply.

Another question for your work history do you only need to give for the years 2006 onwards or from when you left the UK ?

Not sure. I can see why it should only relate to 2006 onwards but it may be best to show the complete work history since leaving the UK.

To be eligible for class 2 rates it’s important that you were working in the UK immediately prior to leaving.

Hi, I recently got confirmation that I can buy back 18 years at class 2 which I’m delighted with and I got a reply back within 3 weeks. I did my application online. My question is I tried to do this for a friend of mine but could not get past the ID check as her information didn’t match.
I guess it was because her NI number was in her maiden name and her passport in her marriage name.
We phoned them up and asked what should we do. They said to post info re marriage, birth surname etc.
A lot of women will have a similar issue and my question is, is there a quicker way around this.

The UK Tax Year always runs from April 6th to the following April 5th
Were you by any chance "Contracted Out" for 90/91?
It might tell you in the State Pension Summary part of the HMRC app,
If you were contracted out for a year, you paid into a private pension for that year. You did not pay full UK Nat Ins, and cannot get a full UK State Pension of St£221.20, per week, no matter how many years you have left until pension age.
The good news is that you should have a private, defined contribution, pension (growing for 34 years) with you name on it
But you have to find it.

Also, everyone should get 3 years for free at the start. Normally the tax year of your 16th, 17th &18th Birthdays.
Each year is worth 1/35 of St£220.20 or St£6.32 per week.
So if you are more than 5 years from retirement (You need 10 years to get any forecast)
You will be able to see you got the three years, even before you pay the extra years from 2006 - present

Hope this helps

Thanks for your message. I was not contracted out, not sure what happened to that year. Anyway my claim has gone in now and just waiting for it to be processed. Hopefully I will get class 3 if I am not approved for class 2.

It was so long ago I can’t recall. Sorry.
I had a look on my phone and found an App called “GOV.UK ID Check” there so I’m pretty sure I used that one anyway. I don’t see an App called HMRC. From memory I think I used a single App to complete the process. Good luck.
