I don't remember that being a major issue with them during Lisbon 1.

Not just about neutrality and losing our commissioner after all, then.
 
I looked him up on google at the time, he is Catholic and attends mass daily holding some fairly staunch views. For some reason i wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be fundamentalist something or other. Although libertas may not subscribe to his views he is the main man...
 
They are a funny old bunch aren't they? Almost make me nostalgic for the good old days when the PD's thought they were going to rule the world.
 
The liberal media failed to sink him by claiming he was a pawn of the US Military ahead of Lisbon 1 so maybe they'll go the right-wing Catholic route to try to sink him ahead of Lisbon 2.
 
While I never agreed with Declan Ganley I considered him to be highly articulate, intelligent and astute.
Now if he thinks quoting the Popes views on abortion or same sex marriage will endear him to the Irish voting public then I seriously misjudged him.
 
hmm. A practising Catholic attends a conference organised by the Catholic John Paul II Society and co-hosted by the pro-life Human Life International group. He states that he is opposed to Abortion and Same-sex marriage. Not his nascent political party. Him.

How is this news? Has the guy previously concealed his Catholicism?

Why does Irish Times juxtapose these comments in a way which mixes an apparent personal position with the stated policies of the Libertas 'party'? Is it a deliberate attempt to conflate the two? Or just shoddy, shoddy journalism?

Both. The IT has EU fever. In a recent article they tried to link Coír - who they noted was anti-Lisbon group - to that terrible Roscommon child abuse case. The IT will try to do over any person or group if they think it will further their EU/Lisbon agenda.
 
The Irish Times just has a pseudo-liberal, anti-RC Church, anti FF, anti “old Ireland” bias.
The lowest form of life in their eyes is a mass going, GAA supporting, FF voting rural construction tradesman who eats his dinner in the middle of the day.
