Let go from job that never happened

Hi All,

Unusual one this one!! Last April, I left employment to take up a FT permanent role with a consultancy company - subject to 6 months probation. The consultancy role I was initially advised of during my interview never materialised for some reason or another - so the org tried to place me elsewhere with their clients (on 3 occasions), despite knowing I didnt have the experience the client required! Thus, I have been on their books - being paid since May.
Yesterday - I met them and they advised they were giving me a months notice! This is despite a) the original post I was supposed to fill no longer being available when I started b) me asking on numerous occasions if I should be concerned - only to be told -' no - this is completely normal'.....when I mentioned this yesterday - I was told....'well - what could we say?????'.....

Can someone advise?? I am back to the drawing board now in terms of looking for a role - but can they give me just a months notice on the above grounds?? My contract does state that either party can terminate the contract with 1 months notice during probation....

Am at my wits end!!

Thanks!

Yes, you have to move on. Their circumstances have changed and they can let you go without having to give you a reason within the first 12 months.

Maybe you should ask to be let go on gardening leave - i.e. that you would not have to come in to the office for the remainder of the month. This would allow you to focus full time on your job search.

If you manage to get this gardening leave would you pop round to mine and sort out the neighbours hedge

As said you have no rights for the first 12 months (except equality legislation)....

make sure you get a written reference stating that you where let go because the position no longer exists...

My under standing of the situation was that Mauraf is already on gardners leave? Since the start of the job? No placement on office?

Lots of time to spend on AAM
