Looking for some clarity on the above.
Current scenario is person was initially on Job Seekers Benefit about 6 weeks before being put on Illness Benefit by the Doctor, currently on Illness Benefit 5 months. This person is also a Lone Parent and when made redundant applied the same day for Jobseekers & Lone Parents as they were advised by Dept of Social Welfare they could get Lone Parents Payment (means tested) and half rate Job Seekers Benefit/ Illness Benefit.
Query is when you look up details on Illness Benefit it says you can be in receipt of same until you are fit for work (understanding is that is if you started your claim before end of last year where I think there was amendments at Budget time) , this person has a Long Term Illness and it is unknown at present when she will be deemed fit to work and so far Social Welfare are in agreement of this following Medical Assessment.
However when you look at reduced Illness Benefit for someone in receipt of Lone Parents it says that it is only payable for 15 months so therefore she would just be entitled to Lone Parents which is means tested and is reduced accordingly by maintenance payments she receives so her payment would be less than if she were to continue Illness Benefit which is not means tested, although taxable.
So real query is, her Lone Parents claim has not yet been finalised would it benefit her to withdraw the claim for Lone Parents and just continue on the Illness Benefit payment just incase she is not deemed fit for work in the long term eg. more than the 15months? Perhaps we are interputing Illness Benefit entitlements incorrectly, is there anything else that we have overlooked in this, hope this makes sense.thanks
