Maybe some of you guy's in the know can tell me if this was acceptable and that if I should have went along with it....

Basically I recently changed over from Jobseekers benefit to allowance. I used to sign in the Labour exchange on a Wednesday but as I changed over to Jobseekers Allowance I now have to sign on a Tuesday.
Now I got caught off guard do to personal isseues and only remembered late on the Tuesday that I had to sign so I rushed to the Labour and even though it was a couple of minutes before 4 o' clock the guy wouldn't let me in.
Ok so that's fair enough, so I went down the next day and the lady said to come back the following week as that is for the "late signers". The following day I noticed no money was in the bank so I rang the Labour and they said that is correct that the Minister for.... I can't remember to be honest brought out new laws in the past few weeks and that it would be 3 weeks before my payment will be there.
They advised me to go to the relieving officer, so I did, and he said he can't help me as my claim with the labour was still live. He told me they can't leave me without money for 3 weeks and to ask for the hatch supervisor.
I went away and back over to the hatch supervisor and they told me nothing can be done, and could " I not borrow on the strength" of the money.

So as I claim for my wife and 3 kids I am/was left for 3 weeks without any money at all. I collected my last payment in my back on the 23rd April and am not due to collect my next paymet until the 14th of May.

Now here's another twist in the situation. When I went to sign, the guy in the hatch said, "where do you want to collect your next payment, what post office",. I toldy him I get paid into the bank and he said new rules are if you miss signing on, that you have to go back to getting paid in the post office for 6 months!!
Also he tells me my money will be in the post office on Tues the 12th of May, so that's 2 days before I should be due 3 weeks money, and I'm wondering if I'm now only going to collect 2 weeks money when I should be due 3 weeks.
Currently we did borrow on the strength of the money and if there is only 2 weeks money there we will be screwed.

So should we be due 3 weeks, I hope so ?
I missed one signing day, can they make me change for getting paid into the bank for 6 months ?
Should I have just take the "abuse" from the 2 people I spoke to in the Labour exchange, as in I felt they were just trying to get me out of there and were not helpful at all, very ignorant to be honest.

I wouln't be on Social welfare if didn't have to believe me. I work most of my life but here's some crap that I just don't understand.... I got let go out of my job, I didn't get a christmas bonus at the time so I asked why not, I'm told I'm not unemployed long enough, that I had to be on Jobseekers Allowance. I applied for fuel allowance, I was refused for the same reason.
What I find hard to take is the amount of Junkies and other people that have no intention whatso ever of ever working and just sit about and do drugs ect... just get everthing handed to them, same goes for the foreigners.
Another this I noticed about the "Foreigners" was, I was waiting to see the welfare officer and you have to take a ticket with a number on it, so I took one. Then while I was waiting I copped what was happeing. The Foreigners are taking upto 5-6 tickets each and their friends were just walking in the door and were basically skipping the whole que as their friends were giving them some of the extra tickets they took.
They really have it sewin up don't they

Apologies for the bit of a rant there, but it's hard not to feel hard done by when you see how the "system" works.

Thanks guy's

Well throughout my time and experience in a busy working environment I was always courtious and helpful to my customers as at the end of the day that is what I was paid for.
I went to the hatch, and was told be "some person", "just come back next thursday and sign", and was like looking through me to the next person. I wanted to know if my money was going to be there that week ect... as this is the first time I missed a sign day and have no knowledge on how things work.
I found the staff, well that particular one very ignorant and unhelpful.

In regards to the junkies ect...

Well my source for that info is just looking around me. In the late signers "que" where I qued up for over an hour I saw numerous junkies out of their head just skipping the que. I could have said something at the time to the junkies but that's not up to me as the staff at the hatch could see they were skipping the whole que and just went ahead and served them. It's like they just want to serve them and get them out while the rest of the normal people just take the sh*t end of the stick as usual and just que up in a nice orderly fashion.
So yes my source for that info is just looking around me at the shops for instance and seeing all these living dead wandering around out of the head and I dont' think they will be working in their life.

Hi The 1, sorry to hear of your situation. It is indeed frustrating to be left in the lurch when you desperately need the money. Once you get sorted out things will settle down in to a routine and you will get your money every week.I expect the staff are probably overworked now as well which is why the guy was so quick to close the door. It's not a nice situation to be in but hopefully things will improve for you soon.

Hi Swallows, yes I'm sure it will blow over but I just think the system is all wrong they way it's being worked.
I agree in this horrible time of recession the staff more than likely have their work cut out for them. Like with all jobs there will be the good staff and the not so good, that's life unfortunately but this is one experience I won't forget for a long time.

Just a shame we have a government that's incapable of running the country I suppose we'll have a new government in the not so distant future, let's hope they can do a better job.

Thanks for the replies by the way!
