My son is leaving a paye position and moving to Canada in May 2022 for two years. He earns 32k. Would he be entitled to any tax refund for 2022 next year ?

Possibly, but on the face of it it is likely that he will have used most of his 2021 tax credits already so the refund will not be material.

It's not clear why he would receive a refund for 2022 at this point though?

Thanks. What I am wondering is in 2022 he will earn approx 15k before he leaves and will have paid tax up to time he leaves. So come the end of 2022 as his earnings in Ireland 15k x 20% tax ie 3k falls below his tax credits for a full year can he get a refund of tax paid between Jan and May on doing his PAYE return for 2022 in early 2023 ?
