Im sure someone here has come across this before so any advice appreciated.

We have a house that we moved into 6 years ago, new at the time. All fine but the shower seems to leak and i cant seem to identify from where.

Over the years a few tiles have cracked which i have puttied up, no big deal so hope to have got it,

A plumber called today for something else and told my wife that generally the base in a shower moves slightly so maybe the water is getting in around the silicone. He suggest that we would need a row of tiles removed and the base lifted. seemed like an odd suggestion

any advice or personal experience?

This is most likely what is happening. In my case i removed skirting from the front of the shower and packed some wood underneath the base to stop it moving. Then I removed and reapplied silicone. This fixed my problem. You might get away with just replacing the silicone (which is what I would do in the first instance).

Not as handy as you my friend,
I thought that applying an extra thick layer of silicone from woodies would be a suggestion
