We are due to renew with Laya. Current plan is two parents and 15 year old child on Simplicity, with 20 year old child on Connect Care 150. Overall package has increased in price this year by around €266 with new quote at €3,261.

Are there are newer or better value alternatives with similar benefits I should be considering

Many thanks in advance of any advice.

arthurave,

Alternative options for the 15 + 20 yr old as follows with VHI, which are most competitive on price for young people at the moment.

Half price offer for under 18s on One Plan range until 31 October 2017;
One + Plan; price 148 per child; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, excess 125 per private hospital admission or day case.
Limited day to day on this plan, but the savings will cover day to day medical costs.

The following plans are worth considering with VHI for the 20 yr old;

1. VHI PMI 12 11; Price 363; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private excess 125 per admission or day case, day to day
expenses covered - the first 125 not allowed.
2. VHI PMI 43 16; price 448; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered; private excess 150 per admission, 50 per day case, good day
to day cover on this plan, 1 euro excess.
3. VHI PMI 35 13; price 453pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private excess 100 per admission or day case, good day to
day cover on this plan, 1 euro excess.
4. VHI PMI 32 12; Price 466pa; all public, private and 3 hi-tech hospitals covered, private excess 75 per admission or day case, good day to
day case cover on this plan, 1 euro excess.

The main difference between the above 4 plans is the private excess for admissions or day case, and the level of day to day cover.

There are some savings to be achieved as Connectcare 150 is too expensive at 605 per annum.

Simplicity would still be highly recommended for the 2 adults as before.

Many thanks snowyb,
Will definitely make the switch to VHI PMI12 11 as you have outlined for the 20 year old. For the 15 year old, who is playing a lot of rugby and visiting the physio almost every second week, the day to day benefit on Laya might still be worth the extra payment.

Thanks once again

Simplicity is a good choice, or for 58 euro extra Laya Control 150 Secure - price 334 per child; is worth considering.

Extra day to day cover, 40 euro refund per physio or gp visit, etc with a 1 euro excess.
Hospital cover is similar to Simplicity with a 150 euro excess per private/hi-tech hospital admission.
