Law Degree, then what?

I'm in final year of the BCL and thought I wanted to be a solicitor, but the prospects of becoming one are slim to none. I cannot get an apprenticeship, and hearing feedback from practicing solicitors and all the bad press, I think I want to go down another route. Thing is I do not want to work in anything financial because I'm not really great with numbers. I have spent an Erasmus year abroad in Germany and might go with German, but my heart isn't in it.

The real question is what to do next? I'd really appreciate some advice on what others have done with law degrees..

How about applying for a working visa to OZ and doing some volunteer work while you are there. Having some fun while helping others could give you the experience you need to get a start when you return home to Ireland. Google Redfern Legal Centre and see what you think.

hmmm, it's looking like a distinct possibility but I'm not really sure that I want to go to Australia though.. However my tune could change very soon, thanks for the advice

People I know with law degrees have done various things besides law: IT, finance, teaching. If you are good at German and have a law degree you could be qualified to translate legal documents, contracts etc. from German into English. Translation doesn't pay fantastically well but translating legalese would be at the better paid end of it. Be warned - few things in this world are more soul destroying than a German tax form!
