Late court summons

I received a summons to appear in court for late payment of a speeding fine last night (3rd May) from the local Garda station. However the court date is on the 14th May and I have been told that I should have been given at least 14 days notice. Is this true and does it make any difference to the speeding fine against me when I go to court?
 
There is a statutory period for the service of a summons. If served incorrectly the defendants solicitor can make a submission to have the case dismissed
